Of course, you want to know something about a therapist prior to working with them on issues that are so personal. Therefore, allow me to tell you something about myself. I am a licensed psychologist in Maryland, with 20 years of experience. I graduated with a Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from the APA-approved program in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University. I am a Fellow of the Maryland Psychological Association and a member of several other professional organizations:
Baltimore Psychological Association
American Society for Clinical Hypnosis
Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association
International Obsessive Compulsive Foundation
After earning my doctorate, I pursued extra postdoctoral training in working with the following:
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Trichotillomania (compulsive hair-pulling)
Sexual Addiction
Trauma and Dissociation
Hoarding
Anxiety Disorders and Depression
Tourettes and Tic Disorders
Hypnosis
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is particularly effective for traumas, both big and small. This efficacy has been shown in more studies than any other treatment for traumas. Many of the studies include control groups.
I am also certified in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which took an extra 3 years of postdoctoral training. Recent research indicates that ISTDP is effective for depression as well as anxiety.
I have 20 years of expertise in hypnosis. My training was first in my doctoral program and then through the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.
